Our Process

Our Financial Planning Process.

How It Works

Discover the Powder Point Wealth Management Process.

Our process is designed to help you organize your financial life, connect your decisions to a broader retirement and estate plan, and provide a framework for ongoing review. It is not a one-size-fits-all process. We tailor our recommendations based on your specific situation, goals, and preferences.

Meeting with an advisor.

1Initial Retirement and Planning Conversation

This first meeting is a chance for us to get acquainted. We discuss:

  • What prompted you to seek a financial advisor
  • Your current circumstances (family, work, business, retirement timeline)
  • Any immediate questions or concerns around retirement, taxes, or estate planning

This conversation is also an opportunity for you to determine whether our firm’s approach is a good fit for your needs.

2Integrated Financial Assessment

If we move forward together, we will take a more detailed look at your financial picture, which may include:

  • Income, savings, and spending patterns
  • Investment accounts and retirement plans (401(k)s, IRAs, pensions)
  • Stock plans, equity compensation, or business interests
  • Tax returns and existing estate planning documents
  • Insurance coverage and other relevant information

Our objective in this stage is to understand how the various parts of your financial life interact so we can provide coordinated retirement, tax, and estate planning guidance.

3Retirement, Wealth, and Tax Planning Recommendations

Based on the information gathered, we develop recommendations that may address:

  • Retirement readiness and income strategy
  • Investment allocation and account structure in light of your goals and risk tolerance
  • Tax-aware strategies for savings, withdrawals, or specific transactions
  • Business and succession considerations
  • Family and legacy planning priorities, including coordination with your estate planning attorney

We walk you through these recommendations, explain our rationale, and discuss tradeoffs so you can make informed decisions. Implementation is always at your discretion.

4Ongoing Review and Adjustments

Financial planning is an ongoing process. Over time, we:

  • Review your retirement plan periodically and update it as life events occur
  • Monitor and adjust investment strategies as appropriate for your circumstances and objectives
  • Revisit tax considerations as laws and your situation evolve
  • Serve as a resource when new decisions arise, such as a job change, business opportunity, or family change

Our aim is to maintain a consistent process so you know what to expect from the relationship.
